The winter season is on its way and is a prime time for mould and moss growth. Moss and mould don’t look great and they make areas slippery and damage exterior surfaces. We’ve created a list of 3 areas you should make a priority to get rid of mould and moss before winter.

What damage can mould and moss cause?

Mould, moss, lichen, and other fungal growths are prone to growing in damp areas. They can grow on a wide range of surfaces like timber, steel, pavers, concrete, fibreglass, weatherboard, and much more. However, they can cause damage to surfaces if left untreated.

While water blasting might remove the immediate view of mould – they spread through spores in the air and can come back. Just because you can’t see it on your surfaces doesn’t mean it’s not there. That’s why you need to apply a speciality treatment after cleaning or water blasting an area like our great product Cohe Moss & Mould Kill.

Cohe Moss & Mould Kill

Wash the area with a hose or water blaster.
Wait for the area to dry before applying your treatment.

Decking

How to remove moss and mould from decking

While the area is dry, give it a good sweep with a broom to remove any loose material.
Wash by hand or with a water blaster – but be careful not to use too much pressure as it will damage the wood.
Leave the area to dry.
The final step is to apply Cohe’s Moss & Mould Kill and leave to work for up to 12 months.

Exterior cladding

Exterior cladding comes in a wide range of materials – and unfortunately, it can all provide an area for mould and moss spores. Moss and mould growth can damage, discolour and very quickly make a house look tired and run down.

How to get rid of mould on exterior cladding

Waterblasting is likely the quickest and easiest way to clean the exterior cladding of your home. It will help remove as much mould and moss growth from the surface as possible.
Once it is dry, apply Cohe Moss & Mould Kill with a spray gun or similar applicator.
For best results apply in the morning to surfaces when it is dry, and when there is no rain due for 12 hours.

What is asbestos and why is it harmful?

Asbestos is a term used to refer to six naturally occurring silicate minerals. All are composed of long and thin fibrous crystals, each fibre is composed of many microscopic ‘fibrils’ that can be released into the atmosphere by abrasion and other processes. – Wikipedia

Asbestos was widely used in building construction before anyone really comprehended the significant health hazards.

What is asbestos encapsulation?

A concrete floor is a great option for flooring inside or outside your home. It has a great modern feel and is versatile and long-lasting in most cases!

However, you may have found the odd crack or chip in your concrete floor and understandably want to fix it. Concrete floor repair can be done quickly and cost-effectively with MG-KRETE.

So where do you start?

Why causes a concrete floor to crack?

A concrete floor can crack for various reasons and it is actually quite common. So figuring out why your concrete has chipped or cracked will help you figure out the right steps for repairing it. Here are three of the most common reasons why your concrete floor may have cracked or chipped.

Shrinkage

This is one of the most common reasons for cracks appearing in concrete. You can tell if the cracks in your concrete have been caused by shrinkage as they will be very fine. This is due to many factors including moisture level in the concrete and the speed in which it has cured. Shrinkage cracks will normally appear within the first 30 days after concrete has been laid.

Stress cracks

Extreme temperatures will heat your concrete which can cause it to expand. When this happens, the concrete will press against anything near it – causing varying degrees of cracking.

Settling cracks

Settling cracks can be caused by the ground moving during curing time or the movement in the ground from the weight of the concrete. Even moisture levels can create settling cracks.

Chipping

Another term for this type of damage is called spalling. This happens on the upper layer of the concrete and can lead to flaking or chipping of the concrete. This can happen from just general wear and tear, chemicals, or extreme temperatures.
