How to remove moss and mould DIY style

Cohe Moss & Mould Kill is super simple to use. It’s long-lasting and extra effective at removing growths from a wide range of surfaces.

We know that DIY has a strong following in New Zealand, and we all to some extent, think of ourselves as ‘DIYers’. And this product is the best no-fuss easy way to remove moss and mould and more at home.

Instructions for use

Ensure your surfaces are clean and free of loose debris. Use a broom or leaf blower to help clear any loose matter away.
Make sure the spray will not contaminate water sources (if you have water out for pets move it away to prevent overspray. Or, if you have a water tank connected to the roof or gutters, make sure you disconnect them for at least 14 days after spraying).
Use a low-pressure sprayer, and dilute Cohe Moss & Mould Kill with water at a 1:20 ratio (You can alter this ratio depending on how much growth there is on your surfaces).
Then, all you need to do is spray Cohe Moss & Mould killer onto the surface, and then walk away.
Done – it’s really that simple.

Tips for moss and mould removal

It’s easy to do concrete repairs with MG-KRETE

Step 1

Check that the area you are applying MG-KRETE onto is clean and free of loose material or dirt. MG-KRETE will cure in both cool and warm temperatures. Just keep in mind in warmer conditions it will dry faster, and in cooler temperatures, it may take a little longer.

Ensure your surface is dry – you do not need to pre-wet the surface.

Step 2

Make sure you have the right tools, PPE and equipment for the application. It will make your life and the repair so much easier to do when you have the right tools.

Make sure you have a bucket of water handy, so that any spills or mistakes can be cleaned quickly before it sets. Tape off the area of concrete you want to repair.

Step 3

Identify the area you want to repair, and how much product you will need to use. You can find a detailed list of how much MG-KRETE product you will need here.

Once you are ready to mix, add the liquid first, then add any aggregate before adding the powder.

Tip: You can’t rework the area once it has started drying so mix smaller amounts to reduce wastage. You can always mix more and apply if need be.

Only use the liquid at the correct ratio with the concrete powder. Don’t mix anything until you are ready to apply it straight away as it is quick to set – if placed 10mm deep at 20°C, the average set time is 15 minutes.

Aggregate: Construction aggregate, or simply aggregate, is a broad category of coarse- to medium-grained particulate material used in construction, including sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag, recycled concrete and geosynthetic aggregates

Step 4:

Once the mixture is ready to be applied you can use your putty knife or trowel to smooth MG-KRETE into the crack, chip, or broken areas of concrete. Remember – MG-KRETE will dry fast, so you will need to work quickly.

MG-KRETE dries so rapidly that you can return to the repaired concrete between 45-60 minutes. Once you have completed your repairs don’t forget to clean your tools.

HOW MUCH DO I NEED?

4L (8-10 m2 coverage) – 2 coats minimum

10L (10-20m2 coverage) – 2 coats minimum

20L (25-40m2 coverage) – 2 coats minimum

Prep your surfaces correctly. Make sure you give your decking or other outdoor surfaces a good clean and let dry at least 48 hours before you begin your application.
Apply a Waterproof Sealant and leave to dry for 24 hours (which we also stock on our online store)
Apply your Liquid Rubber Deck Coating – at least two coats, to ensure all your deck is well covered. Leave at least 6 hours between each coat to allow sufficient drying time of the product.

It is a tough, water-based coating which is resistant to yellowing and age crazing. The state-of-the-art UV absorbers incorporated in the mixture, assist in surface protection from the effects of sunlight. This reflects heat, sunlight, and reduces thermal heat transmission.

While Smooth Coating is not suitable as a waterproofing solvent on its own, it does increase the longevity of our regular Liquid Rubber by providing extra protection.

Liquid Rubber Deck Coating

Liquid Rubber Deck Coating is designed to provide a pleasing look and cost-effective surface for areas like patios, decks, and walkways.

Again, not suitable as a waterproofing solution by itself, the Deck Coating is designed to be used in conjunction with the Waterproof Sealant, making areas like factory floors or swimming pools more attractive.

Liquid Rubber Deck Coating comes in a standard light grey but can be tinted on request.

Liquid Rubber Seam Tape

Perfect for going along seams and joins in large, straight areas, our waterproof sticky tape adds an extra layer of protection to your roof.

The Seam Tape can be used to seal gaps, seams, tears and joins, and is perfect for restoring roofs, gutters, and skylights.

Our waterproofing Seam Tape comes in two types: Seam Tape and GEO Fabric.

The Liquid Rubber Seam Tape must be coated using one of Liquid Rubber coating products to form a durable waterproof, protective seal and to prevent against UV damage.

It can be used on a wide range of surfaces including concrete, brick, and tiles.

Our Liquid Rubber GEO Fabric is an alternative to our Liquid Rubber Seam Tape, but is recommended for more porous substrates.

GEO Fabric Tape is applied over the top of Liquid Rubber, and then another coat is added to give a completely waterproof finish.

Pothole repair made quick, easy and cost-effective with PAR

Permanent Asphalt Repair, or PAR for short, is the latest and easiest way to fix potholes.

The solution results in permanently repaired asphalt in all weather conditions, lasting longer than traditional pavement fixes, and supports traffic immediately after installation.

And with potholes being a constant and very expensive problem, this new solution is sure to be on the radar of many local councils.

What is PAR used for?

PAR does exactly what it says it does!

It permanently repairs asphalt, filling holes immediately with minimum preparation or treatment.

This allows roads to be repaired and reopened quickly, resulting in minimal downtime and reducing labour costs.

It is specifically designed and engineered to work in all weather conditions, rain, hail, or shine, with no primers needed.

How do I apply PAR?

The genius of PAR is that it comes in its easy application.

Three simple steps are all you need for pothole repair to be on the mend within minutes!

Step 1

First clean out the pothole, sweeping away all loose chunks or debris using a stiff broom or blower to achieve a sound surface for the PAR to bond with.

Step 2

Simply pour the substance into the hole. By placing the PAR in layers of 3 inches (75mm) at a time, and then tamping down until the area is firm, you are doing everything you need to do. There’s no need for primers or waiting for hot mix trucks, you simply open the bag and pour it into the hole!

Step 3

This is the easiest; compact the PAR with a tamper, roller or even by driving over it until the desired level is obtained. The process can even be speeded up by using sand or cement on top to remove the stickiness.

How much PAR do I need?

PAR is used for a broad range of applications, including roads, highways, driveways, car parks and bridges, so how much you need obviously depends on what you’re doing.

It comes in handy 22kg bags, which covers roughly half a square metre at a depth of 25mm.

This is approximately one large-sized pothole, so if you’re looking to fix a smaller hole in your driveway for example, then a smaller amount will do.

The great thing about PAR is you can store it for up to a year, so it is possible to use a little at a time for home improvement.
