Liquid Rubber – Waterproof Sealant

Liquid Rubber Waterproof Sealant is quite literally a liquid rubber that can be applied like any normal paint to most common surfaces to waterproof and protect surfaces. Due to it’s amazing adhesion to almost any substrate, it is the most universal sealer and protector for all craftsman and kiwi DIY’ers.

Once applied to a substrate, Liquid Rubber acts as an adhesive and bonds extremely well to the substrate, curing to form a highly flexible and seamless rubber membrane that prevents water infiltration and stops rusting and corrosion. This seamlessness means there are no joins, which is where traditional waterproofing methods can fail.

How it works.

As a permanently flexible and seamless coating, Liquid Rubber Waterproof Sealant produces a fully adhered chemical waterproof coating that resists cracking and ageing.

It is applied as a liquid and, when cured, forms a flexible elastic membrane able to withstand stresses and vibrations without cracking or peeling from the surface.

Liquid Rubber Waterproof Sealant is a water based alternative to conventional hot applied or solvent based waterproofing systems.

Your surface must be clean and dry before applying Liquid Rubber products. It must be free from dust, dirt, oils, varnishes, surface flaking, poorly bonded or glossy paint, sealers, salts or any other substance, which will create a barrier and disrupt Liquid Rubber from adhering properly. Liquid Rubber can then be directly applied just like a paint using a brush, roller or spray gun.
Liquid Rubber can be applied with any normal paint brush or roller. You can also apply our Waterproof Sealant and Smooth Topcoat (but not our Textured Topoat) with a hydraulic piston sprayer. We hire out Spray Machines which can be found on our Shop section.
Liquid Rubber can be applied to virtually anything that is not oil based including concrete, wood, brick, masonary, most metals (iron, steel, galvanised steel, aluminium), butynol, shingles, tiles, difficult roof materials including EPDM, TPO, most PVC, SBS, APP, BURs, propylene, polystyrene, fiberglass and OSB. If you are unsure, please contact us to discuss your requirments.
Liquid Rubber products cannot be applied to silicon, certain smooth or shiny surfaces, e.g. plastic piping and varnishes or oil based paints.
A torch down membrane is a waterproofing membrane used on a flat or nearly flat roof. It is distinguished by seams or joins running parallel.
Liquid Rubber Waterproof sealant can be used to encapsulate the roof. You can’t water blast the roof however, we recommend spraying a moss/mould killer and leaving for one month before hosing off with light pressure from a garden hose. Then spray the liquid rubber over the roof before applying the smooth sealant for UV stability.
Please refer to our coverage guidelines on our product pages under DIY.
At 20°C Liquid Rubber takes 24 hours to fully dry. Please don’t try to peel it off the substrate for 3-4 weeks.
Remove any surface ponding and let it cure before applying another coat over the smooth coating. Apply Waterproof sealant to any affected areas that may have peeled.
Degradation will vary depending on wear and tear of the surface, exposure to UV rays and other corrosive substances. We recommend reapplying when the product visually starts to look as though it is eroding or after ten years.
Yes you can. So long as the surface is clean it will bond to itself.
Although not ideal, you can use methylated spirits and rags to remove
We have Product Information Sheets for our products which provide general information about each product and how to use it. This should be sufficient for the home DIYer. We also have Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) which provide more technical product information.
Our Liquid Rubber Waterproof Sealant only comes in black. Our Textured Topcoat and Smooth Topcoat come in a range of standard colours. We can supply colours that are not in our standard range but there is a 20L minimum purchase.
The smallest size we sell is a 1L pottle.
As Liquid Rubber is safe for the user, no protective clothing is required from a safety perspective. However, as Liquid Rubber is difficult to remove from clothing we recommend wearing old clothing or overalls and gloves. This is purely for convenience and aesthetic reasons. Baby oil is useful for removing Liquid Rubber from skin.
Left over product can be stored in a cool dark place with the lid on. Keeping the paint brush in the product insde the pail (assuming it fits without sticking out) may avoid a skin forming on the top of the product. Left over product generally lasts 3-6 months.
Liquid Rubber is water based so can be removed from skin and brushes with any form of liquid soap and water before the product cures (dries). If Liquid Rubber has dried on your skin Baby Oil will help to remove it. Liquid Rubber does not come off clothing easily once it has cured.
No. However, if you are in an unventilated area, we do recommend a mask.
Liquid Rubber is water based, non-toxic, solvent free and contains no VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) so is environmentally safe.
