BBQs, drinks and even pool parties are enjoyed on your deck, making it the perfect place to entertain family and friends in summer – a good reason to ensure it always looks great.
While the summer months bring fun and joy, they also bring heat, which can cause damage to your deck.
Applying these deck waterproofing products ensures your deck is protected not only through the harsh months of summer, but for months to come while you and your family get to sit back and relax.
Why should you waterproof your deck?
Your deck is a valuable asset to your property and is most likely a popular space used by family and friends. However, it is also an area most susceptible to deterioration, as it’s exposed to all the various weather elements.
Waterproofing sealants provide a protective surface on your deck’s wood to protect it from water deterioration. By applying deck waterproofing sealants, you’ll get the following benefits:
- Improves the aesthetic quality of your home
- Keeps your property safer
- Reduces maintenance and upkeep
- Protection against rotting
- Eliminates excessive moisture
- Extended deck lifespan
- Save money on expensive damage
- Maintains a clean and polished shine
How to prepare a deck for waterproofing?
This coming spring or summer is an ideal time to waterproof your deck! Preparing your deck for waterproofing will help ensure effective, lasting results. Just make sure you set aside enough time to complete the job on a dry day.
Inspect your deck
Firstly, walk around your deck and give it a thorough inspection. Look for any signs of damage, cracks, and mould. If you find any of these, take the necessary action to repair the damage before doing anything else – preparation is key!
Clean and clear your deck
Once satisfied with your deck’s inspection, it’s time to clear the space by removing any outdoor furniture, plants and decor. Then it’s time for a deep clean. This critical step will help protect your deck while providing a polished end result.
The cleaning process will vary depending on how well you have maintained your deck and the severity of the grime. Remove contaminants such as silicone, oil, grease-flaking paint, dirt, dust or leaves.
Then wash your deck down with your preferable solution. Wear gloves, whether using a homemade cleaner or a store-bought one, as some cleaning agents can cause skin irritation.
You may need to use a high-pressure hose or water blaster if you have stubborn dirt and grimness.
After giving your deck a good wash, hose it down and let it dry completely before applying the deck waterproofing products. Don’t forget to tape off any areas where you don’t want the deck waterproofing sealant applied.

How to apply the deck waterproofing sealants
Our waterproofing products are easy to use for any DIY’er.
First, apply the waterproof sealant using a brush or roller to achieve an even 1mm thickness across the surface. Apply two coats if applying to the porous surface if you require a greater thickness.
Once applied, leave to cure for 4-6 hours before the surface can be walked on. After 72 hours, you can apply deck coating.
Apply 2 coats of deck coating at around 1L/3sqm per coat, waiting for a minimum of 12 hours between coats.
