Winter is nearly over and that means it’s time for a Spring clean! Get the tools out, fix up those odd jobs around the house, and most importantly of all, get your deck ready for summer! The best way to keep your deck waterproof is with our Liquid Rubber Deck Coating!
Why keep your deck waterproof
If you’ve built a beautiful deck, painted it and then varnished it, then you’ll want it to last as long as possible.
And even though it looks amazing now, the elements will take their toll, and surprisingly quick.
Obviously being outside, you can’t prevent your deck from being exposed to the elements, but you can lessen the damage.
Waterproofing your deck can stop the wood from absorbing moisture or pools of water gathering, which leads to rot and structural compromise.
By sealing the wood, you not only keep the water out, but you help sustain its finish, saving you time and money, while keeping it looking its best.
Liquid Rubber Deck Coating
The easiest way to protect your deck from water is our Liquid Rubber Deck Coating.
While not a waterproofing solution by itself, Liquid Rubber Deck Coating is designed to provide a pleasing look and cost-effective surface for areas like patios, decks, and walkways.
Our product is designed to be used in conjunction with our Waterproof Sealant, making areas like factory floors or swimming pools more attractive.
The sealant sticks to practically anything, and makes it perfect for things like roofs, retaining walls, and even ponds. This product is perfect for any DIY waterproofing job around the house, especially on your deck.
Once it has been applied, then it’s time for the Liquid Rubber Deck Coating as a topcoat, transforming your deck into something that’s not only beautiful but protected from the elements.
Because it uses high-performance polymers, it is resistant to yellowing and age crazing, and with its incorporated state of the art UV absorbers, it offers protection from the effects of sunlight that isn’t found in other products.
High-performance Liquid Rubber Deck Coating is easy to apply
This high-performance coating is designed to provide an aesthetically pleasing and cost-effective surface, making it perfect not only for decks but other low-traffic areas such as patios, steps, walkways and swimming pool areas.
When applying, no thinning is required, but of course, as with all coating surfaces, all substrates must be clean, dry and sound.
The first coating can be sprayed, rolled or brushed on, allowing 4 hours between coats. Apply a minimum final thickness of 1 litre per 1 square meter; this should be around 2-3 heavy coats.
Please do not apply when rain is imminent, as the polymer needs to dry fully. Likewise, don’t start coating your deck if the temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius or above 35 degrees Celsius.
How do much you need and how long will it last?
Obviously, everyone’s deck is different, and the larger the deck the more you’re going to need to coat it.
As a general guide, four litres will cover 8 – 10 square metres, ten litres will cover 10 – 20 square metres, and twenty litres will cover 25 – 40 square metres.
The standard rule is: your deck should be resealed once every year, especially if you live in an area that sees a lot of rainfall. However, the degree of wear and tear your deck gets can affect how often you need to reseal.
Not only that, but if your deck is north-facing and gets direct sunlight year-round, you may need to reseal more often to prevent it from becoming washed-out or discoloured.
To test whether your deck is due for a new coat of Liquid Rubber Waterproof Sealant, pour a few drops of water directly on the wood. If the water droplets bead up, your deck is still protected from the elements. If it soaks into the wood, you are due for a fresh coat of sealant.
